Fabio “WOB_Fabio” Immerthal and Bastian “Pipe_Crew” Rupsch finished a strong VBL season in joint 5th place. The German Club Championship was won for the second time in a row by RBLZ Gaming with world champion Umut Gültekin.
The two talents from the Esports Academy NRW, who are competing for VFL Wolfsburg Esports this season, faced the two top favorites RBLZ Gaming and FC St. Pauli in their group of four. FC Augsburg completed the strong field of participants in Group B.
In the first game of Group B, the Wolves played against RBLZ Gaming. After a hard-fought draw in the 2 vs. 2, they lost twice in the following 1 vs. 1 games. At the same time, FC St. Pauli won their first match against Augsburg.
This meant that the second game against the Kiezkicker was all to play for – at least one point was needed. However, Fabio Immerthal and Bastian Rupsch were also unable to build on their strong performances from the main round in the second game and suffered their second defeat in the second game.
At the end of the group stage, they now faced Augsburg, who were also without points. After a draw in the 2 vs. 2 and a 1:3 defeat in the first 1 vs. 1 matchup, it looked very much as if Immerthal and Rupsch would be eliminated from the tournament without winning any points. However, Rupsch risked everything once again in the last game, took an early lead and ultimately won 4:1. The clear victory in the last singles match pushed the team up to third place in the Group B table. As a result, they finished in a strong shared 5th place in the final standings.
Now it’s time to recover and, together with coach Marcel “Minusmacher31” Gramann, draw the right conclusions from the past weekend in order to optimally prepare for the upcoming tournaments.
Fabio Immerthal and Bastian Rupsch have been supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the esports player foundation as part of the Esports Academy NRW since October 2022. They are coached in both solo and duo mode by our coach Marcel “Minusmacher31” Gramann.
