Deutsche Bahn (DB) is supporting young esports talents on their career path: trainees and dual students of the infrastructure subsidiary DB Netz can now apply for a scholarship from the esports player foundation (epf). As a secure employer, DB is thus enabling a second mainstay alongside a career in sporting competition with computer games and is specifically breaking new ground in the recruitment of young talent.

As an official “enabling partner” of epf, DB is the first company in Germany to offer the combination of a scholarship and training/dual study program. All newly recruited apprentices and dual students of DB Netz AG as well as junior employees who are currently completing an apprenticeship or dual study program at DB Netz AG can apply. The 50 top talents will be invited to a selection camp lasting several days with experts from epf to demonstrate their skills. The 20 best participants receive a one-year scholarship and benefit, for example, from individual coaching for their game, fitness and nutrition training, psychological support or technical equipment.

"In the tough competition for talented young people, we are always breaking new ground. Many young people are enthusiastic about computer games - and perhaps also about a career at Deutsche Bahn. With this cooperation, we are addressing determined talents who are pursuing an esports career. We can support them on their path with the experts from the esports player foundation and at the same time offer them a secure job with a future."

"Through our partnership, aspiring esports players have the unique opportunity to pursue their dream while pursuing a secure career path. It is important that we make young talents aware that an esports career, just like a career in traditional sports, can end suddenly and quickly. A plan B is therefore essential. With the Esports Scholarship, DB is leading the way for other companies and leaving a lasting footprint on the scene. Esports talents will gratefully accept this opportunity."

The talents are supported in all games sponsored by the epf, e.g. FIFA and League of Legends. The talents can now apply for an apprenticeship or dual study program. Every year, DB Netz takes on around 1,500 apprentices and dual students in various professions and degree courses throughout Germany.
