The 1st year of the #EsportsAcademyNRW – A year full of milestones and successes!
At the beginning of February, we were guests at XPERION Germany Cologne with 50 esports talents from NRW to select 30 talents for the 2024 cohort of the Esports Academy NRW. A lot has happened since then, but together with Christian Lenz we would like to look back on an extremely successful 2023.
Over the course of the first year, we supported a total of 30 talents, more than 50 percent of whom are now under contract with professional League of Legends and EA FC organizations and can conscientiously call themselves esports players.
Of those supported, 10 League of Legends talents now play professionally, with 4 of them being represented in the 1st division of the Techniker Prime League. In addition, 7 EA FC talents are active in the Virtual Bundesliga, the 3rd League eMeisterschaft or in the junior teams of the VBL clubs.
The talents are extremely grateful for the commitment of the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia and repay the trust with great leaps in development. Thanks to the Academy, we can once again give 30 young talents the chance to prove themselves and live their dream this year. In the future, we now need to expand the model of state support to more federal states in order to raise awareness and give every talent the chance to realize their dream.
