Structures through state funding

As part of regional funding programs, the esports player foundation, together with the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises of Berlin, supports talented Esports athletes.
These partnerships are intended to serve as a model for other German federal states by fostering young Esports talents within their regions. Expanding cooperation between policymakers and federal states could, in the future, create a systematic framework that enables young Esports players to grow into national representatives and role models performing on the world’s biggest Esports stages.

The state-level funding programs aim to support emerging talents from each region on their path to the national and international elite through tailored development measures. These individual athlete programs close a significant gap in Germany’s talent development system and are globally unique in their structure and scope.

How do the federal states support Esports talents?

Through a combination of individually tailored support elements, young athletes receive holistic development opportunities that address both athletic performance and personal growth — including preparation for a “career after the career.”
The core of this support is based on the esports player foundation’s key development modules:

  • In-game coaching

  • Regular bootcamps

  • Sports psychology and mental health support

  • Nutritional guidance

  • Physical fitness training

  • Personality development

  • Dual career planning

Within the framework of the Esports Team Berlin, the esports player foundation supports 20 young talents across the titles EA FC (FIFA), League of Legends, and Brawl Stars.
This program is made possible through the dedicated commitment of the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises of Berlin.

Esports Team Berlin
"The Senate Department for Economics has deliberately decided to launch the funding program ‘Esports Team Berlin’ to emphasize Berlin’s role as the capital of gaming and Esports. With this initiative, we are introducing the city’s first-ever Esports talent development program. Around half of the total revenue of Germany’s Esports industry is generated here in Berlin. We are supporting young Berliners in developing their skills and showcasing their talent on both national and international stages. With this program, Berlin is setting new standards in talent development and investing in one of the most dynamic industries of our time – and, ultimately, in the future of our city as a leading hub for innovation."
